Berlin is Capital and seat of the government of Germany at the same time. As a city state Berlin forms its own county as well as the center of the metropolitan area Berlin – Brandenburg Gate. Berlin’s historic city center is located east of Pariser Platz and Brandenburg Gate around the avenue Unter den Linden, and extends across Gendarmenmarkt to the waterfront areas of the Nicolaiviertel and the Fischerinsel. The western city center is concentrated around the boulevard Kurfürstendamm, the Gedächtniskirche (Memorial Church), and Tauentzienstrasse.

An entirely new shopping, cultural, and residential quarter has emerged at Potsdamer Platz, next to our Berlin Mitte hotel. This is an excellent place to begin your stay in Berlin with a stroll through the government, parliament, and embassy district, past the Reichstag building and up to elegant Friedrichstrasse. Renowned architects like Josef Paul Kleihues, Hans Kollhoff, Renzo Piano, Aldo Rossi, Helmut Jahn and Norman Foster have all left their mark on the new buildings throughout this area.

Brandenburger Tor (Brandenburg Gate)
This triumphal arch stands in the very heart of Berlin and once was the symbol of the divided city. In the heyday of East Germany, the structure was integrated into the Berlin Wall, after the fall of the Berlin Wall the Brandenburg Gate was re-opened on December 22, 1989.

Reichstag (Parliament)
The Reichstag, built in the years of 1884-94 by Paul Wallot, is the seat of the German Parliament and with its new glass dome is one of the most popular attractions of Berlin. Its history reflects the turbulences of German history since the 19th century. In 1994-99 the Reichstag was redesigned by the architect Sir Norman Forster as a modern house of parliament with an accessible dome.

Potsdamer Platz
Potsdamer Platz is a vibrant square next to our 5 star hotel. Here you can find entertainment in the casino, the theatre, IMAX, multiplex cinema, the night clubs, the Philharmonic Hall and the shopping arcades.
